18th century domed top, studded traveling small chest / trunk


Decorated with brass studs forming the initials M. S. on the lid. Possibly used for documents, the box would originally have been covered with leather. The interior wooden lining extends on the ends, and along the front of the chest to fit the shape of the lid, there are scraps of paper lining on the inside


Size: Approximately 18” (45 ½ cm) long by 11 ¼ “(28 ½ cm) wide by 11 ¾ “(30 cm) high


Date: 18th century


Condition: General age related wear and tear. The wood of the domed lid is split at the back; some of the brass studs, one of the metal corner guards and the back of the lock are missing
